Chemical Peels

Chemical skin peels are one of the most requested medical cosmetic treatments in the UK, particularly since the emergence of television make-over shows.

Chemical peels work not just by removing the superficial layers of skin (epidermis) but by stimulating production of the body's own source of collagen. Collagen is the substance in the skin responsible for providing its elasticity.

There are two types of peel:

1. Glycolic acid.

Glycolic acid is what is called an AHA (alphahydroxy acid). AHA’s are found in fruit e.g. citric acid. Medical quality AHA peels are produced to a very low pH even at low concentrations such as 20% and are engineered to provide uniform distribution throughout the epidermis making them safe. Glycolic peels are superficial, removing the uppermost layers of the epidermis (keratin).

What can it do for you?
We believe that regular (monthly) glycolic acid peels, in conjunction with our range of cosmeceuticals provide an excellent anti-ageing regime. Over time (approx 6 months to 1 year) your skin will appear fresher and younger looking and fine lines will disappear.
We use the Neostrata professional range of glycolic peels.

2. TCA
or trichloroacetic acid
This a medium depth peel which means it can remove most or all of the epidermis, depending on several factors. It is usually given at weekly intervals for 4 sessions. This ‘regenerative cycle’ as it is known can then be repeated twice per year if necessary. It provides the most impressive results, more quickly, as can be seen from the pictures below, taken over a 4 week period (this patient also received fillers for folds, but notice skin texture and colour changes) There is some down time where the skin peels over several days, but this can be largely countered with anti-oxidant moisturisers (provided).

TCA is useful where a more immediate result is required for facial rejuvenation, or where more severe acne, wrinkles or scarring is a problem.
We use the Skintech EasyTCA range which again is engineered to avoid complications
